If you haven't taken the truck out for a while, I doubt anything is going out. Sometimes normal condensation causes corrosion internal to the starter, and the physical action of operating the starter pedal removes that corrosion, allowing the current to flow and the starter to spin.

On the other hand, if it's a regular driver, then you may want to plan to get that starter out to a shop.

Worn starter brushes can cause an open circuit that keeps the armature from spinning. If it happens again, have someone hold the start pedal in the engaged position while you give the rear of the starter housing a moderately firm tap with a hammer. If that makes the starter spin, it's time for a new set of brushes.

Or keep the hammer handy !
Then be surprised when that doesn't work anymore!

When I was teaching auto mechanics at a Tennessee state trade school, I told the assistant director of the school about the hammer trick. The next day, his Toyota pickup came into my shop on a wrecker. "Your trick didn't work" he said- - - - -as he pointed to a windshield wiper motor with a bunch of dents beaten into it! Was it rude of me to break up laughing?

If you're smart enough to take it apart, you darn well better be smart enough to put it back together.
