Man do I hate the era of having to order everything!!

Below is the part that I need:

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tnk-bf54

I have done searches online, and it looks like Ace Hardware "might" have one, but the place is like 25 mi away.

Would HD or Lowe's have this? The local auto parts stores haven't been very inventoried with this kind of stuff.

It's more of an automotive type fitting, but you might check local plumbing shops, if any of them do any oil heating system work.
I have my doubts that HD or Lowes would carry them.

Call your local auto parts store, Ive picked up similar fittings (not your size) at both orielys auto and carquest.

See if they have an Edelmann drawer you can go through.

Back when FLAPS hired professional parts guys instead of nose-picking computer jockeys, finding that kind of part would be a no-brainer. Dorman and Edelman brass fitting assortments were well-stocked, and the counter guys knew how to research their catalogs and come up with a correct part number. That item is a "pipe thread to female inverted flare adapter", and NAPA would probably be the most likely place to start looking. All you really need to know is the size of the pipe thread (usually 1/8" NPT or 1/4" NPT) and the diameter of the metal tubing that threads into it.

Thanks guys. Based on Jerry's comment, I'll elaborate on an experience from yesterday:

1. I needed a new piece of steel fuel line, as I bent the original one wrong, and couldn't reverse it to my liking. The part # was PA-540. I ordered it online as we were out and about, and the site said it was in stock, and would be ready for pickup in 30 min......

My wife and I get there, I walk in, and the guy's like "oh yup here ya go!" I figured this was so fool-proof that I didn't bother to look at the tubing in the store. I get out to the truck, and even though I'd asked ZERO questions during my order, AND the part number was ON my order, AND the receipt, I look at the part that they gave me, and it's part #PA-420....

I walk back into the store, [censored], but not showing it. I show the guy who just gave it to me, and he's like "ohuh, so sorry, had a little dyslexia going on there!" I didn't laugh. I'd totally done their job for them, and they STILL managed to f it up!!

In other news, if I order the part from Summit, the part is $11, and the shipping is an additional 10 DOLLARS for that thing! Sigh.

HRL is correct. Napa stocks more of that stuff than most. It's a Weatherhead #202X5X4. Napa Online has it at $2.69.

As Jerry said, most if not all parts stores have a Dorman or equivalent assortment of brass fittings. OReillys is bagged up individuals on the shelves but they also have a big cabinet in the back room full of fittings. NAPA has the same except the fittings are not bagged they are in a cabinet out front. Be sure to take both pieces you are trying to fit with you if possible. I’ve found that if I can get the manager to help me out and engage in friendly chitchat with him, he will remember me next time and not be as fast on the “we don’t have it” or “gotta get it from the warehouse” comment. It takes a few trips but if you can stick with the boss you’re going to get better service. My older real parts guy retired from OReillys 2 months ago so I’ve switched back to NAPA.

I bought what I believe is that same fitting and a drain cock for my compressor tank at the True Value hardware store. They had a very good selection of brass fittings and I think I paid $12 for both of them. The drain cock was about $8 as I recall...same size as the drain at the rear of the 235.

That shipping cost is a bargain compared to what I get. They insist on shipping everything 2nd Day Air up here. nono
After checking all the stores in town, I just tried ordering some door hinge bushings (weighing a couple ounces) online. Napa didn't have the ones I needed unless I bought 4 packages of an assortment of sizes. O'Reilly's had exactly what I needed in the right quantity, and "free" shipping, but when I got to checkout, it said that they couldn't ship them to me. Finally Autozone had them and they are going to ship them for less than the cost of the item. THAT'S A MIRACLE! We'll see if they actually follow thru.

You mentioned using the steel line

I like using ni/cu line for my brake and fuel lines. A lot easier to bend and flair. It usually comes in a roll so you'll have extra.

Good luck

I took the hit and ordered the part from Summit. I don't know of any True Values near me, and the part will be here Wednesday, so I just grumbled and clicked the ORDER button.

Summit has free shipping on orders of $99 or more, and I'm sure could have easily found another 90 worth of stuff, but I'm trying to behave myself. Xmas is coming, who knows what's going to happen with the economy, and I've already ordered over $500 in parts from Summit this year already so, I had to restrain myself, lol.

Lowes actually has a fairly good assortment of brass fittings in the plumbing section. I ended up getting a number of them for running propane lines in my travel trailer.

That is an female inverted flare fitting used for gas and brake lines. I just went thru the same issue not finding them at any local parts store and I visited them all. I ended up ordering it from MSC. They had exactly what I needed, it was cheaper that any of the normal venders. I ordered 4 fittings and the total order including shipping was just over 18 dollars. The best part was it came in two days!

I didn't think of MSC, had I seen your post a few min prior, I might have gone that route.

Summit always has my stuff here in 2 days, so I will stay focused on that perk. smile

I looked at NAPA online and even went to the local store. I find that when I’m looking for parts not specific to a vehicle, I miss allot of items they carry, i.e. the fitting that kades51 posted, I totally missed. My local NAPA doesn’t have the old man at the counter thats been there for forty years so I get allot of “we don’t carry it”.

I just found the Weatherhead online catalog for fittings. Its easy to use and gives you the part numbers which you can use on NAPA’s or any other search box. [LINK]

I bookmarked it for future use. Now If I can only remember I have it! 😂

Our local Lowes carries slide out drawers of them I use them all the time. They even carry the hollow nuts that are used under the hood for emblems. Body clips (both slide and standard), so small or large screws can be installed etc. Doc.

I have just one suggestion kind of in line with Jerry's comment of FLAPS counter help. Get to know the Commercial Parts folks. They spend more time with part numbers and research, most are usually willing to locate something odd ball. I suppose I'm lucky, my Son-in-Law is the Commercial Parts guy at our Oreilly's

Craig said a mouth full when he said go to the Commercial person. They have one at Advance Auto and O'Rielly's for sure and one at napa. I worked with a lady at Advance delivering commercial for her and also found out a few other tricks....like light bulbs for instant. Buy a box no name brand commercial for what you pay for 2 or three on the store isle.

She now works at NAPA and has been selling parts for almost 30 years. Best part "man" I ever seen, and she always gives me the best price!! yep, I take her biscuits quite often. Even took her to lunch not long ago!! (yes her hubby is a dear friend as well)
