I have a 1953 1100 Chev with a 216 in it and am looking at rebuilding a 235. I notice that the water pump on the 235 is longer and with the room between fan and radiator it will foul. Could anyone tell me if the 216 water pump With fit on 235 block.
The pumps are different. There a few options. One being the least preferred to three being the most preferred. 1) you can move the radiator to the front of the radiator support. This involves cutting both the hood latch panel and the lower splash pan. This was done on my truck and to me it’s butchery. 2) You can buy a 235 pump with a shortened pump shaft available from most venders or you can push the pulley back on the existing water pump shaft and cut the pump shaft yourself., 2) You can buy an adapter plate that one of our forum members offers, that allows you to use a 216 water pump on a 235. It also relocates the water pump to the center of the radiator. This involves drilling and tapping two holes in the block and installing a 216 fan on the pump. This is the method I chose and it was not hard to do. I bought mine on eBay for about 50 dollars (American). Look for seller pre68dave or PM Pre ‘68 Dave.

I installed a 1958 235 in a place of 1952 216, and that adaptor plate is butter. Drilling and tapping the block in two places is easy work with a sharp drill set. Best part is when you're done a waterpump is still an off the shelf part.
thank you Phak1 and Hink for the information. I have found pre68dave on ebay and will contact him. To Frank50 yes it is righthand drive and is australian built
