Looking for a shop to chrome my 1941 GMC lower grille. Anyone have a good experience or a favorite shop that can touch up a few small dents and chrome the grille? Was originally thinking of a shop nearby, but sending it near or far doesn’t seem to be a concern. More interested in quality and good people to work with. Don’t have a clue on the cost but if it’s less than a million dollars I will be happy. - tom

If $$$ are not a consideration: dynamiccustomchrome.com
They do great work, but are incredibly expensive. Wanted $650/ea for bumper and $250/ea for the (5) grill plates on my '51.
A bit too steep for my blood.

Well, that's less than a million dollars. wink
But pretty steep. You could buy a quality repop chrome bumper for an AD for way less than $650. But a 41 GMC grille might be tougher to come by for a reasonable price.
Unfortunately for me the only chrome shop in Alaska closed years ago.

Well, I should add, that my comment about less than a million isn't exactly, true. I expect it to be expensive - but by how much? I don't know. I need a place that is reasonably priced and yet, does good work. Shall we say less, than $500,000.00? that may help...some.

This appears to be an ongoing problem in Florida. When I started restoring cars and trucks in the 70's there were chrome shops everywhere. Now that the EPA regulations are in effect chrome shops decided to close. I wonder if Detroit, Atlanta and other auto manufacturing facilities have smaller shops that they use? Doc.

Doc,

There are a bunch of places in Florida. They are all on the East coast. All of the shops on the West coast.... or at least near Tampa... are closed and the phone number rings in a shop in Miami. The owner .... seems like a nice guy... said they were closing so he bought them and kept the number. The physical shop is in Miami.

Space coast was recommended to me but wanted $3500 to do my 1940 Chevy truck grill.

Royal Plating in Tucson AZ was also recommended and they bid $2200 for the grill, hood ornament, light rings... basically all the bling. Seems like nice people. I just shipped it off to them..... We shall see how it works out.
We shall see what the bill is when they actually get it.

Mike

Oh this is getting disheartening. The chrome work is more expensive than the truck . Think I need to revise my expectations down from a million to $500k now to $250k. Anything less than 250,000.00 seems more palatable.

I haven't used but a Corvette friend of mine swears by Pauls Chrome in PA. He said they were great to work with. However they were quite expensive. Hope this is of some help. Have fun and good luck
