For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2020 Posts: 17 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2020 Posts: 17 | Hello all, my name is Doug, and I have just joined the stovebolt gang, I have owned many old trucks and usually drive them as my daily drivers, However the truck I am driving now is not old. I was driving my 1957 GMC Suburban home from a job, back in 2014 with a full load of fire wood in the back, I was coming around a corner not far from home, and the rear axle popped out and the truck body dropped down onto the rear tire. so It sat there for 2 days, because I did not have time to deal with it. I eventually had it towed to my home, just about 1 mile from there, And I had the driver back the truck into my garage, and thats where it still is, I have decided to start a major resto on this truck, I had already purchased many new parts, (for another 57burb parked next to this one) I decided to install a complete power disk break conversion all around, And I am now starting the body patchwork and dismantling the truck. The problem I have is the truck has the original 347 pontiac v8 motor, It also has a generator, it also has the voltage regulator on the fender wall, I just purchased a new wiring harness, I would like to get rid of the generator and install an alternator with regulator built in on it, I thought to start looking for a pontiac 347 alternator, but also need brackets to mount it. I plan on installing an a.c. in the truck as well, so I would like the alternator to be mounted on the drivers side of the motor, Can anyone help with this? Just not sure what to buy and or where to buy it.....

Welcome to Stovebolt.com
You will find members here who will help you (advise you).
Post each different question in a separate new thread in the appropriate forum. Example: alternator and wiring questions in the ElectricAl Forum.
You might want to post a few photos of your truck in this forum or in the Welcome Center forum.

As Tim was saying, if I can paraphrase, each of your emerging issues are kind of different. They probably belong in the appropriate form. I realize you are a new member and we are just suggesting how Stovebolt prefers to separate issues, Like one at a time.
The Panels 'N Burbs area here is a basic place for Panel and suburban specific talk. The panels and suburban's are mostly the same as trucks except for the seats and the body behind the doors. The doors and forward; and the basic frame, are the same as truck. Same parts. The gas tank is different.
Many of your questions are best served in all the other appropriate forms where truck owners/experts can answer any of them. Looking forward to trying to help as you delineate the issues separately. So post away!
