I have unbolted the cab mounts and have wondered if anybody has updated the rear cab shackle mounts for a more modern urethane mount from maybe an S10 or Ranger? Does anybody see an advantage to keeping the shackle mounts? I don’t think it would take much modification to change them out. Thanks for your ideas. | | | | Joined: Nov 2018 Posts: 122 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2018 Posts: 122 | Most of the popular aftermarket suppliers offer a bed mount kit that includes all new bushings, rubber pads and hardware to rebuild your existing front and rear cab mounts, and is reasonably priced. Much easier than re-engineering mounts that have worked successfully for many, many years. Just a suggestion.

That is why the cabs are mounted on shackles. It is what prevents cab sheet metal fatigue damage to the cab when going over rough terrain. S10s and Rangers frames do not flex, therefor they do not require shackle mounts.

Th initial thought process was too use a biscuit style motor mount. The factory cab shackles actually do a pretty good job when it comes to absorbing shock and vibration. A better solution would be to modify the front cab mounts. The OE mount is basically justa chunk of rubber with a bolt through it. The trick is finding mount that is internally tied, so your cab stays on the frame when the rubber wears out. | | |
