I stumbled across these on Speedway Motors. They’re made for sbc engines mounted in an early Ford chassis, but as I looked them over I thought they just had to fit the AD frame and I was right! I was worried about the steering shaft but it clears with ease on my trial fit. They sell them ceramic coated or raw steel. You can see them here:
From the picture I can see that you have a non-original suspension and steering setup. What are you running? Those headers might not work for someone running the original front axle and steering. More details would be useful. Thanks.
I assume d-port heads and oval port heads are the same thing? If I read it correctly, Speedway uses both descriptions for the same style of headers. I have an LT1...what I've read calls them d-port heads. (I will contact their tech rep before ordering.)
What is the advantage of having headers with tight 90 degree turns in the tubes that close to the exhaust ports and unequal length tubes from the flanges to the collector? I'd like to see some dyno numbers comparing them to stock exhaust manifolds like rams' horns. If there's any advantage at all, I'm going to guess it happens at RPM ranges the average street-driven engine seldom runs, if at all. Jerry

Mmmmm, candy. Who doesn't like candy?! Maybe we need a "Candy Forum" to pacify the HiPo purists on this mostly Originalist truck site. (Lots of irony packed in that one sentence, eh?)

Carl and others, the HiPo Forum is just that, power, chrome, polished aluminum, crazy modifications to suspension and drivetrain. It is a bit of a shame that the “Original or nothing Purists” feel the need to even enter this forum to preach the leave it alone theory. Personally I like trucks both ways but let’s leave the HiPo Forum to the folks who want to modify their trucks. We have a multitude of Forums for the stock or nothing purists. Down off my soapbox now, coffee and go outside and work on an engine. Y’all have a great day!

You took me too literally, Hoss. I was just poking fun at HR(someone needs to every once in a while to keep his blood flowing). If you read my earlier post you will see my support for headers on mobileortho's truck. Carl

The headers look as if they tuck up nicely , most the full length tubes I've seen hang pretty low. It does look like a MII front end. I'm with Martin, I like coffee too.

I haven't posted in quite some time, but I thought the "HiPo" forum was for guys who were modifying their trucks. That being said, mine is a '50 3600 that I'm in the midst of shortening the bed among other things. Up front is an adjustable mustang IFS, a standard 260 horse crate engine with a very mild cam, TPI fuel injection, vortec heads, 10 bolt posi rear with 373's, flipped axle. I had shorties on it for years and I've heard of guys saying they had long tubes but no one could not say definitively what they were. I knew that there were others out there looking as well so when I cam across these I made sure to pass along the information. Now, do I need them for the type of driving I'll be doing...no. Do I like chrome & all things shiny...YES!
Now for those who're considering these, here are a few this I've discovered... 1. I've not fully mounted them, but I see that the passenger side hangs a little lower that the drivers side. My guess is that may be for a bit more clearance for guys running a stock starter? Mine's a mini so I don't have that issue. 2. Ground clearance. My IFS is adjustable and at it's lowest setting, the flange is about 4.5" off the ground which is a little too close for comfort for me so I'll have to raise it up a couple of inches (the easiest) or raise the motor up more in the engine bay and install a transmission tunnel in the floor (requires a lot more work)

Your right on spot with the HiPo forum. I'm doing many of the same things to my 59' , 10 bolt flipped to the top of the springs, 327 with a 4 speed, I did stay with a straight axle up front and even it's dropped 4"s. This is supposed to be the place for "Us" to share ideas that don't seem to fit anywhere else, I think your doing just fine by the way.

I first met Mobileortho in person several years ago. I was in to all stock or mostly stock at the time. I saw his truck and liked what I saw. Well, I have built two Ad trucks with 350s and automatic transmissions since then. It is all his fault.

It's true I'm not a purest but I do appreciate the work on these old trucks, it takes a lot to keep a 60 or 70 year old vehicle on the road. I had a lot of influence from Hot Rodders and Drag racing when I grew up and that has carried over to my projects. To me if you don't enjoy driving the old truck because it rides rough or brakes hard or won't keep up with traffic you can change somethings to make it better.
Back to the headers, i found these on Speedway, what I like is that they don't hang to low. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Small-Block-Chevy-Clipster-Headers-Stainless,60503.html

It seems we also need an "Eye Candy" forum to accomodate the "It looks cool" crowd. Real "high preformance" should involve some actual measurable gains, instead of guys just bolting on a bunch of mismatched parts that actually reduce the power output instead of providing any positive results. At least that's been my goal over the 50+ years I've been building engines that double the power output of stock engines, like the 714 HP MOPAR 440 pull truck engine we ran for several seasons. That's a dyno figure, corrected for temperature and relative humidity, not some fanciful pipe dream from some website, BTW! There have been a lot of 600+ HP 350 Chevy round track engines on that same dyno! Jerry

I had a small argument with my partner on the cackle car once. His background was drag racing, lakes and salt speed racing, etc. We were building/restoring the 1971 Champion Top Fuel car. One task he gave me was to sandblast the 6-71 GM blower to remove the powdercoat coating it had from boat racing use. I knew that blast cabinet would make a mess of the the internals of this piece, So I doubled/tripled taped the top and bottom. My partner told me not to worry about it. His quote was "You should see us in the pits, we thrash between rounds and we're not in clean surgical situations. Sometimes dirt gets in there and it's okay." My come back was "Dude, were not racing. This cackle car is now doing car show stuff. It going to live a life of shiny eye candy stuff." I get my partner. He understands race more than he understands car show. Nothing wrong with that. I get Jerry. Hi Po = high performance. Adding a component to increase performance should be the goal. But these days, it seems Hi Performance means adding the eye candy factor. The bigger percentage of those kids with Japanese cars really don't go much faster, but they feel like it with that louder exhaust!
There's room for all of us.
BTW, the guy who tuned the top fuel car, never polished a thing. If it didn't make it go faster, it just meant extra work. When both he and the driver saw it, 40 years later after we restored it, the quote from each was "It sure is a lot shinier than I remember it!"

Lol! Sure, blame me! Ha ha ha! Maybe we can all get together again after this virus thing is over.

Carl, you're not the only one who gets an immense amount of enjoyment out of rattling curmudgeons' cages. A few of them are so predictable all it takes is a couple of words to get their blood pressure spiking! Hook, line, and sinker! LOL! Jerry

I'm OK with adding a "eye candy" forum. It could contain candy for street rodded trucks or candy items added to rat rods if there is such a thing. It's all in the owners mind what he considers a sweet treat!

Heck yeah I just scored a Dana 60 with disc. That’s candy!
We already have an “Eye Candy” Forum. It’s called the HiPo Forum.

Some don't think that the HiPo Forum is a place for candy...I can go either way. If it's a Candy Forum, it doesn't have to meet any performance criteria so shouldn't that eliminate the right or wrong discussion?
Candy is not “Stock” so where else would you think it belongs? BTW, starting a new forum is not a real option. We have plenty as is. You do know that chrome guarantees a 10hp boost anytime you install it!

I thought HiPo meant "High Polish", as in chrome, powder coating, anodized, etc.
