Hello all, my panel is just sitting in the shop (and has been for 20 something years) waiting on me to do something with it. I have pondered the conversion to a 4X4, off an on over the years but never wanted to take on such a job. Has anyone here done this type of job? If I remember correctly the drive train needs to come from K20 or K30, 68-72 years because the differentials are not as wide as the square body’s and thus won’t stick out from the fender wells and look like hell.

Just curious about your thoughts, thanks.
Rob

This is another one of my “different” rigs cool

1973 El Coolmino, 1970 blazer running gear (Not a frame swap) 383 stroker, turbo 350. Built outside of Salem Oregon, over 30 Years ago. A very proper fab job. I’ve owned it a couple years.

Measure your front axle spring perch width. Starting in 55.2 through '91 all the chevy and gmc spring perch widths were 31.5-32".

If I'm not mistaken, the front axlle spring perch width on an AD truck is 26" or something like that because of the taper in the front frame and springs. All that to say, you probably won't find a bolt in Chevy axle unless it's an early NAPCO axle for AD trucks, and those aren't too easy to come by.

I've thought about this swap before for a '52 3100, and I was going to look into the wagoneer dana 44's. They are pretty narrow, and I think they would fit the truck pretty well, but I never went far with that idea, so I don't know how well they would fit.

Liquidated my projects
Now looking for a decent '47-'55.1 3100, 3600, or 3800
