Hello Stovebolters,

I'm curious about those of you that have replaced fuel tanks on a 1955-1959 Chevrolet or GMC Panel. My 1958 long wheelbase panel truck has an underfloor frame-ish mounted fuel tank that runs parellel to the driveshaft. It sits on the passenger side of the driveline. Unfortunately, mine is not reusable.

What types of fuel tanks have you panel owners retrofitted?

I have performed several searches through the forum and I have not yet found any results. Perhaps my Google-fu is lacking...

What is this and what does pulling it out do?

Did you want to put the tank in the rear? 65-66 Mustang tanks are very popular for that. I used a first-gen Camaro tank in the rear of my panel truck, but it's a '51.

My burb is almost up and running with a side saddle tank setup.
I really wanted to keep spare tire underneath rear.

It's not as safe as between the rails and is also a pain to route dual tanks.

There's about 9.5 inches of space between the doorstep and frame on my '59 and the biggest tank I could find for that spot is a 10 gal marine tank.

Original NAPCO tank on the other side is 15gal rectangle.
