I'm working on the front doors in Angells 49 3800 panel and something doesn't look right. Are the rods supposed to be like this or are they supposed to be in the indents. It looks to me that the door cards would rub on the rods or vice versa unless the rods are in the indent. Did someone mount them upside down. The handles don't really work so I don't know which way they are supposed to move either.

On early AD's the door relay bars ran horizontally in the indentation; sometime around late '48 Chevy changed them to run at the angle shown in the photo and added rubber bumpers to space out the door cards. This effectively reversed the door handle operation, presumably to prevent occupants from inadvertently opening the doors at speed and falling out of their trucks.
Reproduction door relays only come in the later-model angled configuration like yours. If you want to have your door relay bars run horizontally inside the indentation you'll either have to find some early style relays, or modify some mid-60s relays like I did:
