Hello all, My first post here, I have a 1963 Chevy Truck C20 series vin#3C253011634, the engine has be replaced with a V8 cast #3892657 13GM on the back, the Stamped #V06I6YW on the front of the engine. I believe its is a 67 camaro engine small block but the spamped # has it at 69 427 engine. I have been working to get it running again and on the road, I am hoping to get which specific V8 engine is so I can buy the correct parts for it. Thanks for any assistance on this.
olezippi is correct, you have a very rare 1967 Z-28 302 double hump head engine. According to legend Chevrolet put a factory 283 crank in a 327 block then changed the block casting number. I would ask if you want to sell it but, I could not afford it. I have one left going into a 54 3100 for a fellow and sold my fresh one for $31,250 less the GM cross log manifold. You have something there and maybe someone out there is looking for it so they can have a numbers matching Z-28. My two were taken out of a friends totaled 69 Z in 1969. 2100 miles and 1400 miles they spent 51 years in a motor barrel. This engine was only built in 1967 and used in 68 & 69. Originally made to compete in SCCA competition in the late sixties against Shelby 302, AMX 304 and Dodge 273. One H--- of a running engine and in my opinion the best race engine Chevrolet ever made and I'm not alone in this. Doc

Thanks for the replys, the distributor is on the rear of the engine it also has a cast# on the intake next to the distributor of 3965577, how can I identify the CID size with taking it apart at this time.
Yep, I'd sell that engine in a heartbeat, and have a deep enough pocket to finance a full restoration of the truck with a fair amount of beer money left over! A numbers-correct small-journal 302 is as rare a critter as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or an honest politician! When did any Chevy V8 engine have a distributor in the front? That would REALLY be a rare find! Jerry

Thanks for the info, don't know if it's a rare Z28 camaro engine yet but i would be willing to sell or trade, the cast# on the intake is 3965577. I'm mostly trying to pin down the year and cubic inch size of the engine. Is there anything else on the engine to look at to help ID the size of motor.
I believe you have a 327 truck engine, a true 302 would have a "DZ" designation code. The 302, 327 and 350 all used the same basic casting. You would need research the stamped engine code further to really determine what you have.

Thanks all for the info, any other way by looking at the engine to ID year and CID size, the cast# on the intake is 3965577 which puts it at 1970 motor, will try post a few pictures.
I had a 1937 Ford truck Street Rod with a Chevy 302 and double hump heads. It was not an original but built that way. I was thinking it was a 350 block with a 283 crank de-stoked it to a 302 and the 327 block with the 283 crank was de-stroked to a 301. Correct me if I'm wrong fellows.

Hy olezippi and guys, I'm sure most of you realize that the Chevy V8 302, 327 and 350 are all four inch bore blocks. 302 has a three inch stroke, same as the 283, 327 uses a three and one quarter inch stroke, same as the 307, 350 has a three and a half inch stroke. All of these engines were available in small and large bearing versions. In the good old days we used to bore 283 blocks out to four inch and we would create 301 cubic inch engines.
Hey Mike B. Thanks for the info. I agree I believe its a truck engine also, I was able to get the cast date off the back of the engine F147, I was wondering where I can get the same suffix code you got to look up, could this small block still be a 427 engine made went its stamped and assembled in 67.
Yea, The suffix code V06I6YW keeps throwing me, everywhere i researched i get 427 for cid even though the cast #3892657 reads 327 cid. Thanks all for the help.
It isnt the bore they are the same on a 327 and 350 4". its all in the crank. 3.25 vs 3.48 stroke. main journals are different too but of course doesnt affect displacement.

With the date code of 1967 I went back to my Chevrolet book and found "YW" was also used in 1967 for the same series trucks listed above
The book I'm looking in is titled "Chevrolet Illustration and Special Information Catalog" dated Oct 1, 1966
