For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 3 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Aug 2006 Posts: 3 | Hi, i,m a newbie here.My son and I are just starting to work on a 1970 3/4 pickup with 8 lug wheels. What I'd like to find out is what we can change on the front end ( and with what?) to get the truck in the weeds. I know that there is aftermart stuff out there, but we'd like to start with a 1/2 ton setup. We have built street rods (cars) before, this will be our first truck. I have tried to do a search here ,but could'nt come up with anything for our year truck. Can we only change the ball joints and tie rods and then be able to install 1/2 ton dropped spindles or do we have to change the A arms also. Thanks Joe K | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,067 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 1,067 | You can get a dropped spindle kit. Contact Speedway, they might have something.

I saw it written up in one of the truck magazines sometime in the last couple of years.
I would expect you would just swap the complete crossmember with disks from a '72 to '87 1/2-ton and you might even find one that already has the dropped spindles.

Can we only change ball joints, and add 1/2 ton spindles or can we put in a complete 1/2 ton crossmember from a later model truck??? It's availible with a 5 or 6 lug pattern. I have a 1963 C20 and have been researching ways to drop it and convert to discs. This seems like the simplest and economical way to git'r done | | |
