| | | | Joined: Mar 2020 Posts: 20 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2020 Posts: 20 | Someone took the neutral-safety-switch from under the steering column of my Powerglide 66' and clipped the connectors from the wiring harness before I purchased the truck. I was able to buy a new switch from NAPA but no connectors. It is my understanding that the switch performs two duties: it acts as a starter lock-out when in gear and as a backup-lamp switch when in reverse. My truck is a step-side and has no backup-lamps so I am only interested in the starter-lock-out feature.
The switch has two pairs of electrical prongs. In one pair, the blades are parallel to each other. In the other pair, they are at a right angle to each other. I would like to know which set of prongs are for the starter-lock-out and which are for the backup-lamps. I was able to find a connector on another wiring harness for the right-angle prongs but not for the parallel prongs.
Also, I have not been able to locate the neutral-safety-switch on any of my wiring diagrams so do not know how the switch is wired into the system.
Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

Have someone hold the key in the start position and use a test light to see which prong lights the test light---this is the 12v supply wire. Now use a jumper wire from a 12v source and see which prong activates the starter---this is the solenoid wire. Your home free.
