I have a 1962 GMC with 3/4 ton axles (8 lug rim). I have 3 original rims (9.50-16.5), and two (12-16.5) in the back I would like to replace with originals. I got the 3 originals to bead with a little creative chain, come-along, and 2x4 persuasion and they held air, I did the same with the two 12-16.5's and 1 of them held while the other blew a 3 inch hole out of the sidewall. So i put those on there so the city doesn't come down on me but i don't want to stress any parts by driving with 1 giant back tire and 1 normal one and, although my tires hold air they are far to cracked and bald and had sat for years flat. So I'm not driving anywhere but a few feet forward and back once or twice a week. I know that there are a couple different hub sizes and a lot of newer rims wont fit. I guess I'm not sure what specs to give to the guy over the phone to check if anyone close by has one. I had taken a rim into a few places last year and nobody had a match. all they had was a whole set of newer rims that were way out of my price range. any help regarding the dimensions of the stock ones that would be greatly appreciated.

Do your "stock" rims require tubes?

No they do not, I hadn't stopped to think if they were original. i know the black one in the back and the 12-16.5's are not stock but the black one matches my 2 white rims on the front. when my wife and i bough the truck it had both 12-16.5's on the back and I dug up that black one that matches from the pile of rims in the lady's yard. I took everything with 8 lugs and tried until i got some to fit. It was basically a junk yard find with a lot of stuff piled around and on it when we bought it.

I guess really I need the offset of what it's supposed to have. I'm willing to change to newer rims as long as i can afford them.

Don't believe 16.5 was around in '62.

My grandfather's Ford step van had 16.5" rims 1n 1959- - - - -and it was a 54 model. They were direct replacements (same overall height) for 15" commercial tube type tires with 2-piece split rims. Lots of commercial vehicles were equipped with tubeless tires on tapered-bead rims back then. There were also 19.5's used on 1-ton chassis bread trucks in the 1950's instead of 18" tube type tires.
