Hi folks. Just want to introduce myself.

I've been lurking here for a while a drooling over craigslist listings and finally struck a deal today on a 1952 GMC 2 ton. I'm a little nervous because so much of the information here is chevy focused, but I found the other forum for old gmc trucks too, though it doesn't look as populated. Going to get a service manual and get started. Any specific things to start on for reliability/roadworthyness? The truck seems to be in very good shape. Runs/drives, brakes were just redone, but they failed to work when I went to look at the truck so the seller ordered a new mc... I'm stuck on a tugboat for the rest of the month so I don't get to start playing with it until I get home.

I would like to convert it to a dump bed. I have an old hercules dump unit on a 66 f350 I might steal and try to get to fit on the GMC. I would probably need a different PTO as the ford has a new process and the new (old) truck has a sm420. The guy who sold me the ford said the hoist "came of a 5 ton". So hopefully it has the guts to dump a load of gravel or topsoil. I intend to put the truck to work around the farm and also maybe run it in some local parades and things like that.

I see other folks from the puget sound here, maybe when we are allowed to leave our houses again I'll make it to a local meetup. The seller claims it goes 55 without issue, I don't have anything that could tow it. We'll see.

I'll try to post a picture from my phone.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. it's most appreciated.

There are many old GMC truck experts/owners at oldMCtrucks.com discussion board.

All questions on that discussion board do get answered, usually expertly and politely.

Some members there are also members here.

Some GMC owners post the same question at both forums, eventually migrating to the forum that seems to be more helpful for their trucks.

When I had both types of GM trucks, I'd ask my GMC questions over there and my Chevrolet truck questions here.

Welcome!! Great looking GMC truck. Congrats. When I was a small boy my grandpa had both a 2-ton Chevy and 2-ton GMC from that era on the farm.
Some years ago I was fairly active on the oldgmctrucks forum for awhile, and as Tim stated there are some knowledgeable and friendly guys on there who will help you. I did not find the website itself to be very user friendly tho... your mileage may vary.
