The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk 1954 3100 Side View Mirror Brackets

I have a question concerning the Side View Mirror Brackets on my 1954 Chevy Hydra-Matic truck. While the brackets are probably some kind of vintage aftermarket item, and not an original factory installed item or an option, I am still curious to see if anyone has seen anything like them before.

The reason I ask, is that the brackets are mounted on both the left and right sides the cowl and they appear to be something that may have come on the truck or at least from the dealer at the time of purchase. The driver’s side has the mirror and bottom brace and the passenger side only has the bracket. (The original mirror was round and I replaced it in the ‘70s with the rectangular mirror and blind spot mirror you see in the picture.)

It may always be a mystery, but I thought I would ask.

P.S. It almost looks like the mirror brackets on some of the Big Bolts.

It could be mounted on either/both sides (any size truck).

There were probably many other style mounting brackets/mirrors by Chevrolet/GMC and by after market vendors.

Thanks Tim. I have been debating on whether or not to restore these brackets and mirror assembly or to go to the "new" original/aftermarket. I think I will restore these as they are what I was used to when I was driving the truck. You could actually swing on the passenger side bracket and assembly if you wanted to.
