I just bought a 1950 Chevy 3100 and have started tearing into it. I have a question about the door latches, I understand the mechanics of how it is supposed to lock but when I push the inside handle forward it seems to act like it locks. But you can just turn the outside handle and it opens the door, passenger side does the same. Previous owner shaved the passenger door key lock in favor of a cheap electric lock but it does the same thing, just turn the outside handle and the door opens right up. Does this sound like faulty door latches?

Try to adjust the inside door mechanism by loosening the three screws, then push the inside handle toward the locked position.
While holding it in the locking position, tighten the screws up.

Well, I tried that but no luck. If I lock the door, either with the door open or closed when I turn the outside handle it pushes that bar forward and the door unlocks. I guess I am not sure how this is supposed to work? It seems like something is not moving far enough to get past the point that the handle can move?

Try to lock the door with the door relay bar completely removed from the latch to make sure that it is the latch that is at fault.
