I'm getting ready to rebuild an SM465 I recently bought for my C60. I've been doing some research to learn about the rebuild on these. I am concerned with getting that spanner nut torqued down on the output shaft. Is there a size designation for these or is it a special GM tool? I sure like the right tool when possible. At any rate is there a part number or size I should be looking for? Thanks.
If you look at the last page for the transmission chapter in the service manual, there will be a listing of the special tools needed. There will be a part number for the original Ken-tool. Google is your friend.
I just now discovered that my trans uses a hex nut. I feel relieved. After looking at my trans I understand why the book mentions the spanner type for 4wd units.
