Hmmmm- - - - -I'm going to guess the checkbook needed some CPR after that order! My one and only experience with Total Seal rings was with a fellow round track racer who insisted on using them in an engine I built and dyno tuned for him. After a season of running on a 5/8 mile paved oval once a week, we attempted to freshen up the engine. The cylinders were worn barrel-shaped, with the most wear in the center of the piston ring travel. We had to junk that block. Jerry

Haven't got the bill yet... but am bracing myself. They should be cheaper for the next guy now that the design exists. I had to send them the cylinder head and then wait a really long time.
Thanks for the tip on Total Seal rings. This is only the second engine I've assembled so I'll approach these rings with caution and dig up some instructions.
Out of curiosity before hand I CCed an early and late style 848 head and it looks like CR was only ~6.8 to 7.1 with the original flat top pistons. Apparently Chevy's marketing department really inflated these numbers... up above 8 if i recall.
I'm shooting for close to 9:1 compression on a 216 with flattop pistons, but I'm doing it with a stroker crank and a 60 overbore- - - -adding 7.5 cubic inches to each cylinder. That's increasing the cylinder volume by 123 CC's.
I don't think there's a way to avoid the oddball wear pattern from those rings. Most engines that run them are worn out or hand-grenaded with considerably less than 1,000 miles of running- - - -mostly at extremely high RPM. Doing race engine stuff on a street engine seldom ends well- - - - -at least with the several hundred high performance engines I've built over the past 50-something years. "Your Mileage May Vary"- - - -good luck! Jerry

Hmmmmm ......Does this thread belong in the Hi-Po Shop?
Probably. This type of engine build doesn't have much in common with 99.9% of the stovebolts on the road today, or maybe ever! Jerry
