Can someone confirm on 6400 trucks VIN is VW-H , Do they "V" look like a "U" ?
Trying to ID a truck.
Picture included.
I have read 1 1/2 & 2 Ton trucks used "U" for year? Confirmation? Is it a 1 or 2 ton?
What truck is this? It has 1951 doors/windows and has a huge dump bed.
Someone dumped it at local metal yard for scrap! Any information please.
Owner willing to sell it to me pretty cheap.
Todd

Looks to me like 20 UW-H ?

1951 Chevrolet Truck Vehicle Number code
20 = Los Angeles assembly plant
UW = 1951 6100 (2 ton)
H = August

137" wheel base (I think).

I only had a few minutes to look at her... pretty complete. Dump bed. Engine looks like 235, draft tube, generator, big 235 water pump style. PTO there. Has gas tank behind cab & on outside passenger frame. Tiny bit of top middle hood rot. I haven't checked floors yet. Original interior stuff, gauges ,bench seat. Steering Wheel changed.
The one to the right was also recycled by same guy. 1959?
I'll be back hopefully friday to look her over.

That is one straight truck. It would be a shame for it to go to the scrap heap.

Looks to good to scrap out. Hopefully he has the title. Way too far for me, but I'd really like to see a couple pics of that GMC.

The original engine would have been a spray-oiler 235. Check to see if there's a triangular-shaped sheet metal cover on the driver's side of the block near the middle down by the oil pan rail. That will identify the engine as a spray-oiler instead of the 54-up full pressure type.

Jerry,
Thank you. I'm hoping to check it out Friday! I will update then.
I had fun building (almost done) my 1950 3100..
2 Ton looks to be a real challenge.
Not sure if wife will buy off on it...

Todd, don't let your wife hold things up, save it for someone else at least.

Neat trucks ... Hope you get to save them and all goes well today. Had a deal like that go south at the very last minute ('46 two-ton). Had it chained down on the trailer, the yard boss changed his mind at the last moment, the giant forklift came back and lifted it off the trailer and ... gone.

If you do end up with it, be careful around those wheels and tires as they look like the Firestone RH-5 design wheel in the one picture. Read our Tech Tip on that subject before you do anything with them (including inflation).

Good luck!!

Those "Arrow" turn signals on the GMC, are worth some good money, if they are in good shape?
