I have a 1965 GMC fleetside shortbed truck that i have owned since 1977. I drove him for 6yrs and parked him. I have started restoring him by stripping everything down to the frame and rear end only. This frame has a leaf spring rear end. By the SN this is a 6 cyl -1/2 ton - 115" wheelbase - assembly plant Pontiac Mi - model code 1964-66 - gvw 5,0000 lbs. Looking in LMS and Brothers catalogs I can't find anything listing a 2 wheel drive truck with rear leaf springs. I have listed when I bought the truck to give a history of the truck. I knew of the truck for 3 yrs prior to buying and am relatively certain that it has not been modified. The shape it was in would not reflect anyones TLC having been applied( rough shape ). I need a bracket that bolts to the frame that the leaf spring bolts to left side front. I have seen cabs listed on ebay in Arizona that are rust free. Anyone know the name of junkyard's in that area. I have lots of questions but need to get this frame issue fixed before proceeding.

I'm in Arizona. I have a 1960 GMC. There are no honest junk yards here with old trucks. I can try and find you the part you need if you get me a picture of the other side piece. Your GMC came with rear leaf springs with a Dana 44. Chevy had trailing arm/coil rear.

Welcome neilp,

Is that leaf spring bracket riveted on or bolted on? It would be riveted from the factory. If modified it may have been attached with bolts. I dont know the GMCs very well to confirm the configuration, but Bartamos is on the case. It seems to me the bracket should be easy to find in a junk yard. It may be the same part # as the chevy version. Crosscheck the part numbers so it can widen the search. I know of a early-mid 60s gmc that may have that bracket. I hope to get out to that yard in the next month or 2.

Howdy neighbor! There is a junkyard in Blaine, Tn just east of K-town. We were there just a few days ago for '50s and '60s car parts. They have a separate section dedicated to trucks only, they may have what you need. You can call Gary @ 865-933-9167. He runs the place since his brother passed away a couple of years ago. Great yard for oldies and he's fair on the prices. I assume he does it for hotrod money since they probably made their money off the cars back when they were still in demand. Be prepared to remove the parts yourself.

I believe the spring hanger will be riveted. A far as Chevy, it would have to be a 4x4 and the springs may be wider. As I said the Chevys did not have leaf rear. Removing that at a junk yard may be challenging. You need air or electricity. Hand tools can work if you know how. If the bed is still on the donor, hand tools will be next to impossible. A 70's hanger may work with some trimming.
The front of the leaf mount is the hanger, the rear is the shackle/shackle hanger.

Thanks for the clarification on the part name. Yes it is a 2 wheel drive. Spring width is 2 1/4". Spring hangar is riveted onto the frame. Junkyard I was mentioning in earlier post is in Wickenburg Az. I have a picture saved to my desktop but don't see how to attach it. Any advice would be appreciated. I agree removing hangar in junkyard without proper tools { cutting torch- grinder } would be a nightmare.

I have an old magazine ad framed on my garage wall. It’s a 64-66 GMC 1/2 ton truck. Maybe the pictures will help.

A slight clarification on the GMC v Chevy rear suspension.
The GMC trucks, pickup's etc., were considered to be a heavier duty vehicle, therefore they had leaf springs on the rear as standard equipment. Chevy stayed with their coil spring rear suspension through '72, however, Chevy did offer the leaf spring suspension as an option on two wheel drive trucks starting in '71/72, dropping the rear coil springs in '73.
We have a 64 GMC, V6 up on the farm in Montana, it has leaf springs on the rear. Wm.
