I think that any '71 or later GM K10 front axle assembly would switch into your '64. You most likely would have to change the steering gear assembly which would require adding a PS pump to the engine.
Many years ago my brother in-law had a general store in the Truckee NV area, he had a '64 -65 K10 4x4 that had a snow plow on it to clear the parking lot. The manual steering was a bear to drive, especially with the plow. A late model front end assembly with PS, disk brakes and open carden joints was installed under the truck, driving problem was solved, my brother in-law used the truck for years, many in the winter so he hardly ever took the chains off. Front spring perch width for GM trucks was unchanged from 55.2 through the last straight axle 4x4 truck in '91, so any gm front axle (10 bolt, dana 44, dana 60, gm napco, etc.) will bolt right up.

If you want front discs, look for a k10 front axle from a squarebody chevy. Those dana 44 or 10 bolt axles are pretty easy to find for $300 or less. It will be a good upgrade for your front axle.

If you do end up changing your steering box, be sure to post it up for sale on the forum if you aren't going to keep it. They aren't too common, and I need one grin

Liquidated my projects
Now looking for a decent '47-'55.1 3100, 3600, or 3800
