Guys,

I'll be pulling the bench seat out of my 49 and pealing the carpet back to install bucket seats. I'd like to add some sound deadening material but just a quick look online shows it being pretty costly. Has anyone used anything from Lowes that would work just as well?

This has been recently discussed in "Reducing Cab Noise" in the "Interiors" forum. There may be some helpful ideas in that thread.

Have Fun.

I covered the floor, cab roof, back of cab and all the outside door skin I could reach with Lowes peel&stick roof flashing seal. Easy to work if you take your time.

Since I had a roll of 3/4 black dense closed cell foam, I used it over the peel&stick every where but the doors. Very happy.

If I hadn’t had the foam rubber I’d have doubled up with the peel&stick.

I got this at Lowes. I can tell you it was a night & day difference. I did inside the doors. The gas tank, floors ect. Love it now.
I bought a small hard Roller , which made it super easy.
No after "fume" smells.

I used this stuff. It's a late model OEM type of stuff. https://www.hillas.com/Categories/P...s-08840-500-mm-x-500-mm-10-per-case.html

I’m ready to put sound deadening/heat insulation in my 1953 GMC. Has anyone used either Kilmat or Noico 80 mil products? Ease of installation and if they work as advertised.

I used Noico 80 mil. Did doors on both sides, roof and floor. The Noico worked very well ! pretty easy to install, did doors by putting cut pieces in freezer for 30 mins, made it easy to get into place and roll-out before it became to sticky to move around. Now very quite inside . Also did firewall and installed new door rubbers .

Well....got my bench seat out last night after work and I pealed a corner of the carpet back and low and behold I say some white matting on the floor. I'll know more this coming weekend as I'll really be diving into this project. I did put the passengers side seat in as I was curious as to just where the front right leg of the bucket set would mount. Of course its right over a portion of the battery cover but I have the gears turning in my head for that issue. Anyway....may not need the floor deadening material after all. I'll know more when I get the carpet out and can take a really good look.

Pulled the carpet back this morning and looks like sound deadening material has already been layed down.

Thanks for all the reply's. I have a question. On the bottom of my doors there are the factory drain holes. I have seen and heard from others that some of the sound deadening material uses bubble wrap so would bubble wrap do any good if packed inside the doors to deaden the outside noise? The reason I'm asking is I have access to bubble wrap at no cost to me.

Go buy a rubber grommet. I used the bubble wrap with tin foil over my sound deadening material on my floors and fire wall. Inside my doors, I just used dynamite in strips.

darn Autocorrect! Dyna Mat strips!

Use a plain rubber grommet, then pack the voids between the various sized wires and whatnot with non-hardeneing windshield sealant. It is black and is easy to work into place without making a big mess. It is more like a putty rather than sealant. You should be able to talk a glass shop guy into giving you a big enough dab of it to fill that gap.

Thanks guys. I looked at Lowes the other day and didn't see a grommet as big as I would need. Where else would a fellow look before getting one online.?

You might just ask at your local NAPA, they should be able to match you up with something that will fit.

Thanks. This is not really high on my priority list at the moment but I will get to it eventually.
