Any idea what this unit is? 235 or 261 or a combination? Thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | 3701887 is a 12953 truck 235 head.
LAQ25I84 L = 1953 A = car 235 equipped with a Powerglide transmission Q = Tonawanda, NY engine plant 12953-1000 = 11953rd engine out of that plant in 1953
It would have hydraulic lifters.
261s were introduced in 1954 (and, were only used in trucks). | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,518 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,518 | Dont be fooled by the captains bars on the distributor side, but is a 235 not a 261 as Tim said. That is a good little engine.

I forgot how those bars in that year can cause confusion. | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 116 6 heaven | 6 heaven Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 116 | This was a takeout, and it had a closed driveline truck 4 speed behind it. I noticed that the 4 speed front bearing cover(where the to bearing slides to operate the clutch had 6 perimeter bolts,. I always thought that there were only 4 bolts holding this front retainer on. | | |
