Bleeding the system to a firm pedal can be challenging. The master is often at about the same level as the wheels, if the master under the floor. That makes gravity bleed not work. Any high spots in brake line routing will hold air bubbles.
Technique like reverse bleeding ( pushing fluid from the wheel back to the master can move the air. Two man bleed pump the pedal and hold might be required. Pressure bleed from the master to wheel might be needed. If your running drums in the rear adjust the shoes tight during the bleed process.
During the finish bleed: Pump the brakes hard and hold the pedal down over night can get that final really firm pedal.
Good luck.........getting that first firm pedal is tricky.

I’ve bled the master cylinder on the bench first. I bled the system after installing the disc brakes with a pressure pump. The job is complete and I get a perfect pedal. I’ve taken my truck on an extensive test ride and it’s perfect. Thanks for the suggestions! Until the next project on the 49 Chevy I out! I have the 7 inch sae 70 chevelle caliper kit on my 56 3100 and it fit no problem.
