Preparing to replace the Intake and Exhaust manifolds on my 46 235. someone has placed a later day 235 manifold and intake on the engine. I got a new repro exhaust manifold from Carters and a used 216 intake plus new alignment rings. Were the holes for the alignment rings for the intake and exhaust manifold the same for 216/235? Also, could someone tell me the length, size, and total number of new studs I will be replacing? I will also be replacing the alignment pins with bolts, does anyone know the exact length of bolt I will need? The truck is some distance away so I'm wishing to have everything I'll need on hand upon arrival for the job.

MT used to sell adapter alignment rings. He will probably also know (and, have) the correct length/number of head bolts. I ask because that design was well sorted out and used for several decades up through 63 and is not a common problematic area. Also, consider using a Rimflex gasket when you do your reinstall. Excellent gasket for our beloved motors.

I've used them twice now on 235s, both with excellent results on manifolds that had pretty bad misalignment between the intake and exhaust surfaces. About $50 for a Remflex got me going again without the time and expense of having the manifolds machined. | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 210 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 210 | Upon looking a close up pic of my engine, the alignment pins have already been replaced with bolts, wanted all new stuff before I make the trek to work on it. | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 210 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 210 | Who sells the Remflex gasket? What so special about them versus Fel-pro or the other common brand?

The end clamp on the intake, the long one with the short clamp, is more then sufficient to keep things in good order for the end ports, especially with the Rimflex gasket. With bolts installed on the ends of the exhaust manifold, you may run into trouble with cracking the casting. The assembly is aligned by the end pins and the intake rings. Attachment is by clamping force.

This allows for unevenness on the mating surfaces that would lead to failure with standard gaskets. | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 210 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 210 | Can anyone tell me the length of the intake and exhaust studs/bolts on my 46? I want to have new stuff ready to go. I ordered the Remflex gasket yesterday and will have my Fel-pro as a backup as I saw the Remflex are easily broken. | | | | Joined: Dec 2017 Posts: 1,609 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2017 Posts: 1,609 | Easily broken? No. Unless you fold it in two, lol. You will be just fine with the Rimflex and even better when you have no leaks.

Remember to snug up intermanifold bolts, tighten manifold bolts, then tighten intermanifold bolts last.
