Would the engine run if #6 was at TDC and the plug wires were set up 180 off so they #1 wire still was on the #1 cylinder?

Both #1 and #6 pistons reach TDC at the same time- - - -only one is at the top of the compression stroke, ready for the spark plug to fire, and the other cylinder is at the top of its exhaust stroke, ready for the intake stroke to begin. I like to watch the valves on the #6 cylinder- - - - -as the #6 exhaust valve closes, and the intake begins to open, #1 is on TDC compression. Point the rotor to the #1 plug wire, and set the distributor housing so the points are barely open. The engine will start every time! Jerry

| | | | Joined: Sep 2017 Posts: 19 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Sep 2017 Posts: 19 | Ok started from scratch and know that I was TDC at #1 with both valves closed and timing mark pointed at the a hole in the flywheel. Not the BB on mine but a hole. When I rotate engine one revolution to TDC #6 now I see the BB. All I know is valves and pistons are correct for both 1 and 6 even though marks don't sound right.
Any thoughts on this, does this sound possible?
I moved my wires so rotor is at about 6 o'clock with matching plug wire is going to #1. Distributor clamps are parallel to engine. It started but was barely running. I'm going to do a static timing to see if I can get it closer tomorrow.

The Stovebolt-six crankshaft moves two full revolutions for one revolution of the crankshaft. So, yes, that mark/ball indicates 1 or 6. | | |
