I am starting the restoration process on my dad's 1946 pickup. I need to remove the engine and transmission and am unable to find any instructions on the process and steps. I have removed several engines from cars and trucks, but nothing this old. I can probably get it done without directions, but any information would help me surely get it done easier.

Start by taking pictures. Have several plastic baggies handy to put small parts in, and mark them for where they go.

For some reason, I can't find my "olde" truck book, but I was able to find my car book, which should be essentially the same as a truck. I'll post some pix when the internet speeds up a bit.
My car book says to "disconnect everything" that is connected to the engine from the car, then goes into other things like pulling the radiator, ect.

Another quality post.

The front fenders core support, etc., are easily removed as one piece, make working on engine/trans very easy. Also easy to work on running gear, etc.

X 2 . The removal of the front clip has always made it so much easier for me to do engine swaps and removals that I can't imagine doing it any other way. Also, you shouldn't have to remove the hood.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, if its a 1/2 ton truck and the tranny is a 3 speed, if you decide not to use the original transmission, let me know. I'm searching for one if the shipping isn't too costly.

Disconnect prop shaft from the transmission it will spring down but hit the cross member then you can pick up the motor and slide it forward to remove transmission in the cab (4 bolts and not terribly heavy) Then you can pull the motor and bellhousing as 1 unit if you don’t want to disassemble the front clip.
