Hi Bolters, brand new member here and have found this forum to be awesome!

I recently picked up a 1966 GMC 980 tilt cab, and probably like many of you I’ve found the online data limited.

I haven’t been able to decipher the serial number, most likely because it’s a Canadian version. 6066GMCguy, GM Heritage and an online manual didn’t help as it appears that US and Canadian versions had a different format.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Sounds like a nice heavy truck. Pretty cool if it still has the 6V-53 in it.

Post some pictures if you can (links wouldn't open for me).

I have a '69 T50 fire truck, not as heavy, only 19500, but I like it.

The links are bad for me too, you can easily post pics. All you do is "Use the Full Editor" at the bottom of this page, then look for the "Attachment Manager" at the bottom.

Pinterest is not a preferred method to post links. Imgur is much more end user friendly.

Wow! Thanks for that confirmation 3B!!

Unfortunately the Detroit Diesel was replaced with a 427 tall deck which, BTW, just fired up this past weekend. Not bad for sitting in a field for 18 years!!

Pictures coming soon!
