Is there a specialty tool for loosening/tightening the clamp screw on the distributor. I don't have a problem with the '38 but the '53 is harder for me to access. I can get a screwdriver on the screw but can't turn it due to my arthritic hands. I used a slot head screwdriver bit with my 1/4" ratchet but had a heck of a time keeping the bit in the slot of the screw. What would work perfect would be a tool that looks like a 1/4" deep socket that slips over the head of the screw, has a recessed blade to fit in the screw slot and fits on the 1/4" ratchet. Is there something like that already in existence or do I have to invent one?

Sorry Tiny, I can’t remember. If it pops back in I’ll let you know.

You're probably looking for a screwdriver with a sliding screw starter that goes around the screw head. Not sure there's anything like similar that will fit on a ratchet wrench, though. You may have to adapt something to work for you since you have trouble with screwdrivers.

They make a extension for the bit that you are using, that has a sleeve that slides over the outside of the screw so it helps from the bit slipping off. I have a few that came in the sets when they first come out twenty or so years ago. You can then use a 1/4” drive socket ratchet like your using. If the socket falls off which is likely, tape the socket on to the extension.
Wally World sell one one on there website but not in the stores.

I didn't remember I even have one of those Dewalt ones. I came with a bit set that I got with a 1/4 hex impact driver.
Should be exactly what Tiny needs. Any hex shank bit should fit in it.

Can you convert the screw to a Phillips, clutch, square, hex, Allen socket or Allen button head? Anyone of those would hold a bit driver better than a slotted version.
Update: I found a short extension guide as recommended by Phil. I put a couple of zip ties as stops to keep the guide sleeve from sliding too far down. I just finished using it for the first time and it works great. Thanks for the input guys.
