Hi Everyone,

1953 Chevy 3100 with 235 and original 3 speed transmission.

I'm getting the replacement engine ready for transplant into the truck and have installed the clutch cover and flywheel. I am installing a new clutch assembly and the instructions defer to the manufacturer for how much torque to apply to the bolts that mount the pressure plate to the flywheel. I've searched the shop manual, factory assembly manual and the restoration pack from GM and can not find a torque spec for those bolts anywhere.

So that's my question. What torque setting should I use when tightening down the bolts?

Thanks in advance.

Torque values are determined by bolt diameter, can be found on charts. Use a .375" drive ratchet, short handle, after one has twisted off a few bolts, one will get a feel.

Ed,

Was the torque setting/value based just on the bolt size (did/do all grades of bolts in the same size have the same torque valve/setting)?

Also, same setting for brass/steel/stainless?

Of course not, different torque values for different grade of bolts, brass, Al different, clutch bolts are grade 5.

Don't forget to locktite the threads to prevent oil from leaking past the threads.
