I have had the transmission rebuilt and I am installing a new clutch. The Chevy manual for the 1951 with a 9 1/8" clutch instructs that an "x" on the clutch housing should be lined up with an "x" on the fly wheel. I cannot find an "x" on either part. I did find the "o" for the pressure plate installation and that is set up properly. Does it matter how I align the clutch to the flywheel? Unfortunately I did not mark the clutch housing or flywheel when I removed the clutch. Advise will be greatly appreciated. I get my transmission back Monday and hope to have the job completed that night. :confused: | | |

If you are reusing the old pressure plate you should have marked it to the flywheel. but if the pressure plate is new does not matter as it was ballanced seperate, you will need a clutch plate alignment tool to center to to the flywheel/pressure plate, sometimes a 6 ince piece of bloom handle works too. | | |

Thank you very much. I am using the broom handle method for installation. The job does not appear difficult but I was concerned that there may be a balance problem if I just bolted on the housing.
