Finally found a tailgate in good shape for a decent price for the old '62 C-10. Found a guy who was parting out a '64. He was only about 80 miles away, so I drove the Old Truck up there. I though about picking up the bed as well, but when I looked closer, I found a deal breaker. The bottom of the tailgate area, right where the trunnions mouth, was cut off and replace with a reinforcing plate. This left no way to mount the tailgate.
After I passed on the bed, the guy wanted to know if I was still interested in the tailgate and offered it to me with a 33% discount on the price we had agreed on "for my trouble.". Of course I said yes.
That discount almost covered the new parts I needed to buy to mount the tailgate.
