Greetings from Simi Valley California!

Revisiting my 1948 3/4-ton 3600 after stalling 10+ years ago. Here's where I'm at as of today.

1. Replaced the stock front axle with a 59 Chevy to be able to use tapered roller bearings. Since then a company now offers a kit to do this for the 48. Oh well. The 59 axle is wider than the 48 so it gives the truck a better looking stance in my opinion.
2. The bearing swap allowed for an off the shelf front disc brake set up
3. Tilt for ward cab front from US Body
4. Tilt telescope steering column
5. Stretched the cab 8 inches (no small job as it turned out)
6. Under floor brake booster
7. Cadillac electric buckets
8. New door hinges
9. Many cab rust repair panels
10. Disc brakes on the stock full floating rear end.
11. E brake kit
12. I machined some Ford F-150 alum rims to fit the rear axle 8 x 6.5 hubs and the 6 lug fronts. Not a good idea to not have uniform wheels but, that's what I did 10 years ago!
13. Classic air heater/air conditioner
14. 58 Corvette 327 engine with lump port heads.
15. 700R transmission
16. Air bags for ride control
17. Modern shocks
18. Power steering
19. Smooth fire wall

I'm getting ready to put the cab back on the frame in a week or so. I'll upload some photo's then.

I was just questioning what the airbag set up on the front was for?

When I drove the stock truck, I found it rolled more than I thought was acceptable on turns so, I thought the wider the suspension, the more stable the ride. I'm about to do the same thing on the rear for load management and ride control. Driving it will tell the truth.

What about a sway bar? It might still roll even with bags.

You might be right. I'll think about it. I'm not locked in to the airbag idea. Have you used a sway bar on your 50?

No, I haven’t, but my old one ton isn’t set up at all like yours. It’s stock, hits 60mph max and handles like an old one ton. I don’t take corners quickly at all. If I was going your route, I’d install a sway bar.

I was thinking about the front bags this morning and remembered that way back when I mounted the shocks, I mounted them to close to the bags. Only reason I came to that realization was I researched clearances around air bags for the rear end and determined I had made another mistake on the front. Also, it turns out I had forgotten I did install a front sway bar so, the bags are coming off and I'll move the shocks where the bags are. . Remember, I'm revisiting this project after 10+ years. I made many mistakes and learned a lot from each one of them. I have never let things like failure get in the way of getting things done. One thing for sure, It's a lot easier to avoid mistakes in this day and age of information a couple clicks away. Thanks for getting me to reconsider this.
