I have moved the steering box outboard 1-3/4" and have built a new mount for it. I need to bend the pitman arm back out of the way of the tire and more inline with the original mounting. I plan on using a torch with a carburized flame (more acetylene than used for cutting). I have bent a lot of steel with a torch but never any steering components. Does anyone have any suggestions about doing this?

When I did mine, I used a rosebud tip to heat the arm to a temp just hot enough to bend with a crescent wrench. I then let it air cool while still held in the vice and kept the door shut to keep any cold drafts off of it.

plops it in the bucket on top of some floor dry then covers it up with more floordry.
sez he can come back the next day and it'll still be pretty warm.
the key to it is to not let iot cool too fast.
