I'm aware of the various fluids that are commonly called out - ranging from the original spec of 90 Wt gear oil to the semi-fluids like Champion "00", the J-D Cornhead grease (which is NLGI 0), and the "home brews" of oil and grease mixes. I'm not trying to raise any debates regarding results with those options, just a simple question - anyone try the Chevron stuff? Chevron Delo EP specs look good, NLGI 00 and the base oil viscosity is ISO 220, equivalent to the old OE spec of 90 wt gear oil. Thick enough so it won't leak out. 90W has served me nicely.
Transmission and rear end lube would be a different deal. 1948 3/4-Ton 5-Window Flatbed Chevrolet 34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.

That is the same NLGI 00 ating as Penrite Steering Gear (self levelling) Grease.
Since NLGI is a standardized rating, you can trust that any 00 (self levelling) grease would be satisfactory in 47-55 steering boxes.
I have never tried that Chevron Delco product. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2018 Posts: 351 | Tim, thanks.
I understand it's the same NLGI rating as Penrite, Champion 00, and so on. But not all greases with the same NLGI rating are created equal. The base oil viscosity used in various brands of NLGI greases varies from the equivalent of 20 wt oil to way up there... above SAE 250 gear oil. The percentage of thickener (most commonly a lithium based complex), varies to achieve the NLGI consistency rating.
My specific interest in the Chevron Delo EP 00 is that the base oil is ISO 220 rated, so equivalent to a 90 wt gear oil. Anyway, just looking to see if anyone has tried it.
