On the '59 model...what holds the vent window releases in place? I was going down the road the other day and the drivers side release was about to fall off its post. So happens the passenger side is the same way. I don't see a set screw. At the moment not sure what GM had in mind.?????????????
The vent handle is held on with a small roll pin and typically there should be a wavy spring washer (can't remember the correct name) that puts enough pressure on the handle to prevent it flopping around. Its possible the handle and or pivot is worn, but its probably a broken or missing washer. John
I can't tell for sure from the pics, but it looks to me like the handle has a chunk missing and the pivot may be worn. Its probably the shadow or angle, but the saddle looks sprung or bent in also. The spring washer would go on the pivot, then the handle goes on. The roll pin would go thru the handle and ride in the groove on the pivot, holding the whole shootin' match in place. John
The spring washer is called a "wave washer", usually found in the Dorman parts cabinets at better parts stores, along with the roll pin. It also looks like theres a piece missing from the handle. Good Luck,
Sounds like you found what you need. Put a dab of white grease on the pivot before you put handle on. If you start the roll pin in the handle before you put it on the pivot you have one less part to juggle. The best way I've found to finish the roll pin install is to squeeze it in with a pair of Channellock type pliers. Good Luck John
