I am building a 54 3100 with a 350/350 combination and am interested in other radiator options. Are there any other standard 3-4 row radiators with the same general dimensions as the original that can be made to work well? I have heard of using the early F--d Mustang radiator but would like to hear from others who have solved the V8/auto trans cooling issues. I know I can spend $$ for a desert cooler and may have to but simpler and more cost effective options are always being found by others. Would rather not have to cut into the inner fenders to make it fit.

The easiest solution with no cutting involved was to install the 4-core triple flow "Desert Cooler".

I considered a lot of alternatives when I put a SBC crate in my '52 Suburban...cooling capacity and efficiency, fit, performance and long term cost...I decided on an exact fit aluminum radiator (Rodney Red) with a built in trans cooler coupled with an electric fan set-up..further I bought a radiator frame from "Chevs of the 40's" that dropped the radiator down to perfectly match-up with the V8. I'm planning on using the Burb(when it's finished)as a tow vehicle and cooling was a major consideration.

I saw a guy use a late model cross flow rad turned vertical in a 38 at a meet.He says he has put thousands of miles on it without a problem, he had a local rad shop rework the tanks to accomodate the hose posistions.I was thinking about using this idea as it seems a cheap alternative to buying a custom one.I started a new career and the budget for the truck has been reduced big time so anything that i can do cheaper works for me. Let me know your thoughts about this setup..... Thanks, Dale

I have a 350/350 in my 50 3100, the radiator was re-cored ($125.00) with a 4 row and I used a B&M trans cooler ($40.00) with no problems. Will be installing A/C soon so time will tell...
