Hello all, i am trying to pice back together a 1940 chevy p/u that my father had since 1972 he he only paid only 200 hundred dollers for it and used it to move his lawn mowing equipment for his landscaping business he had at the time. it wasnt untill about 1979 that he decided to re-build it and make a hobby out of it, i can remember as a kid how proud he was of that truck and i can remember helping him do work and small odds and ends it it. pretty much every thing was Original except for the bed witch had rotted away, he built a wooden bed for it, he also painted the truck midnight blue so that was also not original. two years a ago my fater and i decided to finish the job and make it a full blown street rod by putting in a chevy 350,replacing the wood bed with a steel one and flat out re-doing the whole truck witch he had done 21 years before. in march of 2000 we took apart the truck for the long project ahead of us, i sand blasted the dash and stared to sand down the inside of the cab, he took out the old six cylinder moter took off the bed and started sanding the fram and the cab down thats as far as we got, he became ill in may and was diagnosed with brain cancer in june, he passed away in november. i have had the trucked stored away in a storage unit for the past two years and am now ready to start working on it again so i have a few questions i am going to ask and hopefuly someone can help me out

1.what are the meurments for the motor mounts on the frame, i have an moter cross member i got but i am not sure where to mount it

2. What rear will work best with the truck and a chevy 350

3. can i leave the original front suspension on and still put in the 350?

thats all i can think of right now, i am sure i will have more later.

thank you for takeing the time to read my long past and any help on this topic will be appreciated.

thank you, Dave

FYI....I am getting the glass instaled in MY '40 tomorrow, after that all that is left is plates insurance and THE ROAD. I put the 350 in mine too I can't help with measurements to original frame cause i put a clip in mine but if there is anything else you need lemme know. PS I have a few pieces left over if you are looking.

I used the engine mounts from chassisengineeringinc and they came with the measuremmments. They mount to the frame without the cross member. If you use the older smaller style dist. it fits fine but with the newer hei you will have to modify the firewall. If you move the engine forward you may have to go to the short water pump or a electric fan. I moved the stearing box back 2inches for the exhaust. you can use the same front end. I would upgrade the brakes. What transmission are you going to use? Good Luck
