For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2019 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2019 Posts: 6 | I just recently bought a 66 C10 Short step side for my Daughter. She just turned 16 and it's her first vehicle. She's excited to have it and to have me working on it with her. I'm not touching it unless she's here with me. It has a straight 6 that somebody had started to update with an alternator and HEI distributor and a floor shift 3 speed. The power train will be a learning experience for both of us. I'm a V block person. I've helped restore a 64 C10, so the body isn't new to me. We have some work to do before she'll be cruising in it. But, the engine rotates and looks ok for the most part, and trans looks excellent. This truck is already giving us a story to tell and we've barely even started tinkering with it. Oh yeah, by the way, my Daughter named the truck Stitch. I'll be on, probably frequently, for help with the engine, which I believe is a 250. | | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 1,718 Moderator: 60-66 Trucks; North Eastern Bolters | | Moderator: 60-66 Trucks; North Eastern Bolters Joined: May 2007 Posts: 1,718 | Good story. I have one similar with a 66 k10. I have enjoyed my experience with the truck and my boy. A 66 C10 Short Stepside will be a good truck for her. She’ll need to learn how to drive a stick-shift. The standard engine in 66 was a 250, but the 292-6 was optional in C10 for 66. My first truck was a 66 C10 250 3-speed longbed Fleetside. (Wish I still had it.) Have fun and good luck.

My daughter is leaning toward a turquoise tone. I already had a bit of fun locating the proper VIN tag for it. A previous owner swapped the tag with a 65 long bed (according to the VIN) because that one had a title and he was gonna restore this one. Through a couple weeks of called a messages I got the original VIN back on it. We'll need a new driveshaft (56" x 3.50" if my measurements and research is right), bed kit and back bumper. I can fix the wiring pretty easily. And there's a piece which kind of looks like a lower radiator support that bolts down to the forward most body mount. We'll have to replace that as soon as I can figure out what it is and where to get it. After she learns to drive it, we have a few other donor pieces we can put on and then send it off to paint. I honestly believe this will be a fun project for us, and am amazed at how enthused she is about it and its manual trans. Plus I'm glad I came across group. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2019 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2019 Posts: 6 | She can hardly wait for me to teach her to drive it. I told her her first is to learn to go forward and backward in the driveway, learning clutching and braking. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 2,423 Former Workshop Owner | | Former Workshop Owner Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 2,423 | Hello Shane, welcome to the "Bolt".

It will be helpful when looking for all the attachment points for some of your projects. On ebay or through one of the vendors. About 30.00 and worth the $$. You will find Mar-K are the bed people. They are very reliable and helpful on the phone if needed. They also have a presence on Stovebolt. And if you have not found the GMheritage package for your truck - find it, print or save to desktop. Ask us questions when you have them. HB | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,445 Moderator - The Electrical Bay | | Moderator - The Electrical Bay Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,445 | Welcome to the 'bolt. I had a 66 GMC that my father bought new for quite a while. Wife made me sell it, but it lives on.. in Florida.
