on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 52 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 52 | I have a 1938 GMC 1/2 ton long bed panel truck. I am trying to locate the truck's serial # , which I've been told is stamped on the frame somewhere. Is there somebody here that knows the location of the serial #? There is no data plate on the truck. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,269 | I know the Chevrolet truck locations, but not the GMC (they might be different).
There is no indication of a frame serial number on 1938 Chevrolet trucks.
1938 Chevrolet cars had a code stamped into right side rail behind the radiator shell.
Maybe someone has a 1938 GMC truck Maintenance Manual?

The fenders and running boards are removed so it makes it fairly easy to inspect most of the outside of the frame rail. I'll get back under there with a wire brush and clean off the little bit of surface rust and see if some numbers show up. Thank you for the help. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 52 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 52 | I found it! Right frame rail in front of the front tire. The sun was shining on it from the left at just the right angle and a quick scrub with the brush and it popped right out. Much larger stamping than I anticipated. T 145 XXX. I don't want to post the whole number, but can somebody tell me what the T 145 signifies? | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | I think that stands for truck, mine started with T, I.e. T-18, T-12, T-36 etc. The number (145) might be 14.5 which is a truck size number, as in T-12, etc.
