Hello all,

My '61 Apache 10 has its orginal steering column. I've been told that it is dangerous because of its non-collapsing design that could drive itself straight into your chest during a collision. So, for safety's sake, I looked into an Ididit, only to discover that they are also non-collapsing! Considering you can't use your original steering wheel with it, I'm amazed they've even sold a single one. Does anyone know of a solution that will actually make the truck safer for the driver? I see no point in changing it if there's no benefit!

I still have an original column in my 1962 C10. I had an original column in my '63 C10 when I was involved in a pretty serious wreck back in 1981. Because the original steering wheel is so wide, it spread out the impact over a large area. Not the best, but not as bad as some make it out to be.

Personally, I would keep what you have.
