Does anyone have a Pennsylvania Bill of Sale that you can post, message or email to me?

You mean a blank or an example?

Tell us what you are doing and why you want that.

It's just that we are careful and sensitive about anyone doing anything sketchy. No big deal otherwise.

Without an explanation we can not help legally.

I am going from NC to PA to buy a car next week and the NC title/tag office requires me have a Bill of Sale which I would want anyway. I want to have my ducks in a row and if someone has a blank or a pdf of what they have used without issues in the past and isn't 20 pages long. I have at least a 16 hour round trip ahead of me and I want to take one with me instead of hurrying around in PA trying to come up with something.

I would think any legally executed Bill of Sale would be valid in any State. No State specific piece of paper required.

Some states require notarized signatures, and other states do not.

Check the state in which you make the "buy", and check the state in which you intend to register the vehicle.

BJF52, he’s not in PA he’s in NC and intends to register the vehicle in NC. I totally agree that he needs to get a signed PA title along with a properly executed Bill of Sale. Sometimes that’s just not possible a just the BOS will have to do. I would stop in at my local NC tag office and find out how big a deal it’s going to be to get a NC title from a PA BOS before I drove 8 hours to buy something that I can’t register.

I have recently gone-through and learned-about NC registrations (of my 1954 trucks).
DMV would not register them without me getting a bonded title.

Without going into unnecessary detail, here are some questions.

1. What year truck are you registering in NC?
2. In what state was the truck last registered?
3. What type of "former/present" registration/title/bill-of-sale do you have?

Do you have a stamped-into-the frame truck ID/serial number?

Good advice from everybody.

BOS blank
1. NC DMV
2. Down load the many dozen free one's on the net
3. Office supply store
4. Read a few on the internet and make your own. An email to yourself, word style software, handwritten.
Put everything on it:
1. Heading: Bill of Sale
2. Date
3. Description of car with VIN
4. Your name
5. Sellers name AND address
6. Amount paid
7. Notary
8. Go online to NC and PA DMV websites and read.
Take the proposed BOS to NC DMV for review if they don't have a blank that they use.
In my state, if you have a title, you don't need a BOS.

In CA the only thing that matters is what's on the DMV system. If the vehicle is being sold within the same state it simplifies everything. They look on the system and see who the owner is and the paperwork has to match. If there's no physical title the owner (on the system) can fill out forms to make the transaction. If the vehicle is from out of state (out of CA) there HAS to be a physical title because they can't check it on the system, they're not linked. I would assume it would be similar in other states but your state's DMV is the only one that can answer that. If you want to be safe, go to your DMV and ask them what they need for paperwork for you to register it in your name. They should give you the forms with the steps highlighted.

If there is no physical title there may be a way to run a lien and get ownership that way. Again, check with local laws, that's all that matters.

Thanks to everyone. The seller does have a Clean Title and I had talked to Penn DOT as I had a couple of questions but that stated that I only needed the title and have it notarized and then take the car back to NC. I need a bill of sale as my local Tag/Title place always asks for it even though I don't need it in this case. I want to go ahead and get a BOS as a CYA after a 16+ hour drive. Get all I need while I have the seller right in front of me and a notary.

kclark,

Good work.

Would you please let us know if your DMV looks for a frame ID?
Do not ask about this - maybe your DMV will not do this.

Not to muddy the water anymore, but Tim, No Advance-Design trucks were frame stamped from the factory. Correct? I don't know when Chevy started that. The OP has not stated what he is buying so that may or may not be relevant. I know this discussion could spin out of control, and I don't want that. Please clarify your comment and I'll be quiet. Thanks.

"No Advance-Design trucks were frame stamped from the factory. Correct? "

Yes, that is correct, Frank50 (except that some people have stated that a code was stamped on the frame by California).

Nonetheless, my DMV inspector (and the main office in Raleigh) maintain that a code was stamped into the frame by GM (on A-D era trucks). I would like to know the experiences of other NC registrants (who successfully registered out of state purchased A-D trucks).

I am Murphy N.C.the inspector came to the house to inspect my 56 GMC he looked at the vin tag and title number to make sure they match and bill of sale the truck did not have a motor. The truck was titled in GA. before he signed the paperwork and left said I was good to go. Few weeks later got my N.C. title.

Don't know who this fellow is but it is 2017 info and he invites emails. Down in the Chevy section he states that first chassis stamp was 1955.
http://www.automotivetimelines.com/...tors-vehicle-identification-number-help/

According to this document, and unless the DMV has any conflicting document, just urban legend or misinformation, the inspector is correct about some "GM" (notice the other "GM" makers in this link) but he is not correct for AD Chevy trucks. The author seems to say all Chevrolet started stamping in 1955. He does not separate truck/car. GMC has no stamp thru 1966.
A logical, and possibly legal challenge, if ever necessary, is that if a seemingly original factory frame is not stamped and there is no indication of fill-in, grind off or tampering, then obviously the factory didn't stamp it.

Tim already knows all this. He knows there are no stamps. This is just for posterity in this thread and ammo for a rogue inspector. The following shows where serial numbers (as the VIN was called) are located and therefore where they are not located.

I can tell you for sure that my 1953 5 window did not have any numbers on the frame. I was very intimate with my cab off frame rstoration and my frame was cleaned to the bare metal.
