Just an idea for those of you looking for a good candidate for a chassis swap. My 59 short fleet side is mounted on a 2wd 2002 Tahoe 5.3L LS 4L60 posi. I bought the Tahoe wrecked and after I sold all the body parts, it cost only $400. The wheel base is so close, it required no modifications. I retained the entire driveline, fuel system, exhaust, suspension, ABS, 4wheel discs, and wiring. Ok the wiring is beyond a novice level, but I spent a long time learning electronics, so figured I may as well put it to use. I used the newer style Dakota Digital analog gauges and they plugged into the OBDII port and pulled in the gauges, speed, gearshift without wiring. The oil pressure did not go to the computer, so did have to install that one.

The result is easy to drive, handles well, starts every time and gets 20 mpg. Oh and when I need parts, I can get them anywhere.

It only took 14 years, 2 wives (still have the 2nd thumbs_up) and 3 houses. So worth it. Living proof that if you don’t stop, you will eventually get it done.

They named it Apache cause it has a patchy welded here and a patchy welded there.

Apples to oranges but we are in the process of putting a 70 Blazer onto a 2000 4wd Tahoe chassis. Owner wanted LS engine, 4L80E trans, and a "shift on the fly" 4wd capability. The frame is shortened 13 inches and every single body to frame bracket had to be custom fabricated. The owners take lots of pictures but we seldom do on what we consider routine. Shots of the Blazer (actually GMC "Jimmy") mounted on Tahoe Chassis and the Tahoe on it's way back to the great parking lot in the sky.

Oh yeah,
We have put several TF pickups onto 4wd Blazer chassis but if you want pictures I'd have to send you my computer and let YOU wade through 30 years of unorganized photos. I used to have a sign over my desk that read: "We can put a 450 Cummins on a skateboard if you have (A) the Cummins, (B) the skateboard, and (C) cash".
