on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 14 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 14 | Does anyone know if someone makes a 6 lug disc brake kit that will fit the stock '40 3/4 ton spindles? If not, can I put half ton spindles on my axle? Or a 1/2 ton axle on my truck? Thanks,
Dave

The years 39-40-41 all made changes to the spindle. It takes some time in a parts manual. I believe you can change your spindle to 1/2 ton BUT only with a 40 1/2 ton. A 41-50 axle will bolt in your truck without any changes, and makes parts location easier. There is an outfit here in Wa that makes the parts necessary to switch to disk brakes with 6 lugs. I first replaced the front axle/spindles with '52 burb. The king pin spacing is the same and it looks original, to me anyway. The spindles are beefier than the '40 so might be more like a '40 3/4 ton. This is a 6 lug design. Original wheels sometimes need a spacer. He sells those too. I don't have original wheels so that is not a problem.

I am going to do the same on my 40 1/2. Also I have an extra 41 1/2 ton front end. How is the truck coming along? And thanks for the heater!

I haven't had a lot of time to do truck stuff lately but I'll get back with it after T-day. So far I've pretty much just got my front fenders derusted and spray painted. Just a temporary measure to keep them a little cleaner. I'm planning to get a wiring harness in it within the next month along with my new alternator. Then on to getting it running. Hey, Brian, I'll probably be interested in that '41 1/2t front axle to help ease the adaptation of the front brakes. Thanks again everyone!
