Well, this one has been a year in the making and a few weeks in the final fixing. But she's ready for round one of looking!
The Advance Design Spotting Guide tech tip includes an Overview, Field Guide and a section called "Date my truck" ... this last one we hope to finish up tonight. But the others just needed to get out there and used!
If you've got something to add or share, please post it here or email us (editor@stovebolt.com). The beauty of these documents is that they are living and can be continuously updated.
If there's something that needs more 'splaining, let us know and we'll work it in!
Thanks to all who helped with this. Now I can get back to the pile!
Cheers ... happy hunting.

Looks great, Like to add to the dirty dozen 1952-1953 AD trucks (Korean War) horizontal inner grill bars were painted thistle gray not waldorf white.
Thank you, Steve

A misconception that really gets on my nerves is the notion a 235 engine is original in pre-54 trucks. Yes it can be hard to tell the difference, but it's an easy way to tell if that dude at the car show actually knows something or just blowing smoke. Used car dealers will also try to pass it over on ya, not that they know any better.

Hello to all fellow stove bolter's. I have a 1948 GMC pickup truck, bought it to have something to do in my time of retirement. Know a little about working on car's. But completely lost to which model I have purchased. Serial #A228I94608. Wheelbase 125.25, does anyone know if it is a FC-102, FC-150? Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Mike.
Hi Mike -- You might want to ask your question in a new post. It might not get seen in this one as the Advance Design Spotting Guide is about Chevrolet trucks, not GMC.
Congrats on your new truck! and thanks for stopping by Stovebolt!

is there a section about Canadian AD trucks in the spotting guide discussing the common differences, like model names all being different and 235 being introduced in 1953 a year earlier than the US counterparts, and the GMCs using the Chevy engines... i have been meaning to write a document to track the differences as i find them. -s
2MT -- No -- that would make an excellent addition!
