If you pocket that much, definitely negotiate a salvage bid and hang onto the truck! That will go a long way toward repairing the damage and still leave a few bucks left over to begin your restoration.

They are supposed to get me a salvage quote on Monday. Im kinda worried that its gonna be really high but Im sure I'll still come out on top. My plan is to put all of what I get back into the truck. It should pay for some of the body work, upholstering the seat and hopefully a flatbed.

I still have to figure out a way to get the truck to me in Idaho though, its still in Colorado.

Look for a flatbed trucker who needs a load coming your way- - - - -hauling "pre-dug postholes" (running empty) doesn't pay very well! There should be a truck broker somewhere in your area who can coordinate the haul. Figure what scrap iron value would be for a truck the weight of yours, and offer a few pennies on the dollar more. The insurance bean counters will jump on the deal like a starving man on a smorgasbord. That truck has no emotional or collector's value to them- - - -it's all about their bottom line.

My 1956 Tow Truck weighs just over 10,000. At today's scrap price of about $5.00 per 100 pounds that makes it worth about $500.00.
