I’m fully dismantling my 1941 1 1/2 ton truck for a full restoration. I am currently stripping the engine preparing to pull it and ran into a couple of questions.
After removing the bolt which holds the distributor bracket to the block the distributor does not want to come out. I’m assuming the end of the shaft is keyed, but should pull out? Wanted to confirm before I get too serious about removing it. Can anyone offer any tips on its removal?
I’ve also noticed that my engine has old black paint on it in spots; I was under the impression that all of these flat heads were painted silver in 1941; is that correct?
This was a Canadian built truck that has the larger engine bore out of the factory according to the ID tag if that makes any difference.
Any help with these two questions would be great appreciated!

Hy fireguyfire, Happy New Year, your post confuses me, to clarify are you working on a Chevrolet or a GMC? The forties is not my area of expertise (if I have one) but I have never seen a Chevrolet or GMC engine painted silver from the factory, the two colours most often mentioned are gray and blue. Chevrolet and GMC inline sixes have never been flatheads that I'm aware of, the only silver flatheads that I have any experience with were manufactured by Chrysler corporation. Oldsmobile and Pontiac did make some flathead inline six cylinder engines that were installed in trucks up to 1936 I believe, so I'm not sure what you are working on.

Sorry for the confusion; my bad!
I meant to say inline 6, as well as grey paint, not silver.

Hy fireguyfire, okay, as far as I'm aware once the bolt holding the distributor clamp to the engine block is removed the distributor should just lift out of an old Chevrolet or GMC inline six cylinder engine, hope that helps.

That does help: I don’t want to get too forceful until I’m sure it should pull straight out like most distributors.
