There is no reproduction source for Advance-Design (and New Design) bedside-mount tire carrier.
Place a Part Wanted ad in the Swap Meet. In case the 1953 side-mount is different from the later side-mount, specify 1953. (the bedside shape changed in 1954)

And they are not that hard to fabricate. Tech Tips above shows one, but it ain't for the AD trucks.
Considering they didn't come out until 1953, and then the 1954 has different bedsides, you have a one year window on the angle bedside one.
But the only difference between 53 and 54, as far as the side mount carrier, is the top of the tire carrier angles on a 45-degree for the 53, and 90-degree on the 54 (and 55 1st I suppose).. And I'm sure there are some who would like to have one on their 47 thru 53, but you are gonna be hard pressed to find one.
I happened across an old rusty one, from a 54, and made my own for my 51. Mounting points on the bed are the same. (And thanks to Steve Stock for the bed mounting measurements). I have pictures with measurements of what I built, looks original. Let me see if I can get those posted.
Might very well make a batch, depending on the demand.

The previous owner of my '51 found a used side mount spare tire carrier and included it in the parts I got with it. The rear fender has been replaced with a later version so I plan on putting a spare on it, I got lucky because I like that look. I'll look at the mount again because I think it's pretty rusty and if so, I may fabricate a new one and capture all the dimensions.
That would be great if you could capture the dimensions. I would be interested in fabricating some as well. My truck has the fender and the holes from where one was before but the bracket was missing once I bought it.
Here are some pics of my 53 rpo341. Notice there is a piece of flat strapping bar on the inside of the box too. This kit should not be hard to replicate. Steve

Looks like the recent update to the server has screwed up the attachment manager

Hi Mike, not quite to be %100 correct the 54 model and newer has an additional brace that is attached on the front side of the bed between the front bed panal and back of the cab to stiffen things up that the 53 did not have. Send me an email to 53chevtruck3100@gmail.com if you want pics

Well......just finished my bed, everything painted, assembled, including the spare tire mount....and guess what? Tire rubs the indent in the fender. Tire needs to move forward about an 1-1/8". In/out clearance is good, up/down clearance is good, it's only the forward/backward clearance that is the issue.
Long story short, when I bought my truck back in 2016, guy threw in a couple of extra rear fenders, and the driver side one he threw in had the indent in it. Me, not knowing any better at the time, (figuring all these old trucks had side mount spares on them), figured I would use the indented fender cause I wanted the side mount carrier. And it was in way better shape than the standard fender that was already on the truck. So, over the last couple of years, I have hunted and searched for a side mount spare mount. E-bay has them occasionally (at astronomical prices), but that's about the only place you'll ever see them, so yes they ARE rare. Finding the one I found from that 54, I thought I was good to go to build me one (other than the 53 angle bedside and the 54 90-degree bedside). So I did build me one, sanded and painted it when I painted the bed a couple of weeks ago, and bolted it on the truck bed this last weekend.
Let me say here I purchased a set of 16" radial tires, 215/85R16, a while back, going on a set of original steel wheels (that came off a 52.....yea, try to find ORIGINAL wheels for one of these trucks, but I did). The mount is installed on the bed, everything looks correct.........and then the tire rubs.
But the only years that would have come with a indented fender would have been either 53 or 54 (and 55 1st), so I know the indented fender I got would have to be from one of these two years. I'm thinking, and this is just me speculating, that whatever truck this fender came from, had 15" tires on it originally. I do not know if 53 or 54 trucks ever came with 15" tires, or if Chevy would have even had a different indented fender for 15" and 16" tires. Logic tells me that they would not have. But my tire carrier matches an original one exact, and the mounting to the bed dimensions are dead on (and again thanks to sstock for those). Had I went with 15" tires/wheels, I would not have ever had this issue. So I spent most of last Saturday re-fabricating the arms on the mount I have, so my tire/wheel WILL fit. And it does now.
3100Cummins, I'll be glad to email you pictures with the measurements and all, but know ahead of time of what I just described above. If you are running 15" tires, then it would work for you.
Any tire with a diameter more than a 650X16 will cause interference with the fender indent. a 650 is about 29" in diameter a 215/85 is over 1-1/4" bigger in diameter and probably an 1-1/2 wider too which exacerbates the fit even more. You could carry a smaller spare, it wouldn't upset the looks too bad either.

I've gotten several side mounts and had Ray Stanley (Wheelwright Restorations) make up the missing pieces. He does excellent metal fabricating work! Samantha

kades51, My rim and tire will be bigger that that I just want to see if I can make it work with the indented fender I have or have to make a custom one.
If anyone has one and is willing to take a picture with dimensions that would be great. I would like to make an "original" one and see if they would be too difficult to produce. If anyone would be interested in them.
