The main problem is that the light for the readout works once in awhile. Somewhere in my memory I recall someone stating to remedy this incompatibility between old and new electronics is to
install a capacitor, or some figamajig. So, the radio operates good, except the light that illuminates the screen sometimes works... It has been off for weeks. I know the fix to this is out there is out there someplace. Thank you.

Apperrently 'old cars and trucks' electricall systems produce energy spikes. These can mess up new radios in old vehicles. I am thinking in terms of a surge, so a surge protector ought to be the clue to the figamagig I need to install. So now, whatever that is ...
